Waterford Memory Care Facility Floor Plan and Site Layout

We are conveniently located in western Racine County on Hwy. 164 between Waterford and Waukesha, Wisconsin. The Elder Care Cottages of Wisconsin is situated on nine acres in the Town of Waterford and is surrounded by beautifully wooded land. The campus is currently comprised of two buildings, each of which consists of two cottages connected by a common garage. The Rosewood and Oakwood cottages are specially designed community-based residential facilities for those residents needing advanced memory care to include a reminisce room and a delayed egress system.

Each cottage houses 12 bedrooms with full bathrooms and walk-in shower. The cottages include a large, open kitchen and dining area for where the senior caregivers and residents enjoy homemade dinners together.  There is a cozy fireside living room, a den, and a library to gather with friends and family.  A centrally located touchscreen computer is available to all residents. The spa includes a walk-in whirlpool tub and an area for a beautician to offer services.

Our Facility's Benefits:

The cottages are wheelchair accessible with extra-large hallways and barrier-free entryways. Each cottage has a partially covered patio with flower and vegetable gardens. The garden club plans and maintains the gardens.

Engaging Assisted Living: Community of Peers

The best part of our community is that it's a community. We don't seclude our residents from each other or from the caregivers. At Elder Care Cottages, we encourage self-sufficiency. We know the quality of life is important throughout a person's entire lifespan, and we make sure residents are comfortable. When we enjoy life, we tend to notice more, remember more, and make more connections in our minds between different concepts. As far as memory care goes, this is the ultimate goal; making people remember more and use their brains as much as possible.

You've heard of muscle memory? Brain memory works the same way. Using muscles or certain brain connections more often increase their relevance in your life. We aim to give our residents every opportunity to be self-sufficient and use their bodies as much as possible—within reason.

How We Make Residents Comfortable

  1. Peers - It's immensely important for people to be around others they can relate to and share experiences with. Being around our peers and talking helps us to solve our own problems, increasing our minds' acuity and helping to fight off dementia and Alzheimer's.
  2. Community Feel - All our residents' rooms are located within close proximity of one another, and all on the same floor. Centrally located in each cottage is a community room (hearth room) where residents meet and engage in activities together. This short walk gets the blood pumping through their veins, into their brains, and keeps atrophy away.
  3. Group Meals - Community feeling is taken a step further with our group meals. We make meals together, from scratch, taking into account everyone's individual needs for meal times and cooking accordingly. We sit together. We eat together. We pray together. And, in between chewing our delicious foods, we talk and discuss things. Our kitchen is an open-concept kitchen, oepning up to the community room so we can all interact at all times. This makes for better response times as well as better care all around.
  4. Activities - Residents at Elder Care Cottages are always encouraged to engage in activities to keep their minds and bodies at their best possible condition. Activities help to stir creativity, which helps to make new connections in the brain, strengthening connections a person may already have made. We have gardens for residents to plant if they choose, libraries, group prayers, holiday activities, celebrations, etc.
